Financial Document ID Changes for 2023

The Document ID letter/number sequence pattern will change for calendar year 2023. This change will not affect how you do your job or how documents/document IDs are created.

Every January, many of you may notice that Document IDs reset and change. Beginning in 2023, the reset will be a bit different than in the past. While the calendar year abbreviation for 2022 was 9, the calendar year abbreviation for 2023 will be G.

The reason for this change is that documents have effectively run out of new characters to use as of the end of 2022. The following changes are being made to address this issue.

Beginning in 2023, Document IDs:

  • Will reuse calendar year abbreviations from the past
  • Will Not reuse old Document IDs
  • Will remain unique

To learn more about Document IDs and future sequencing plans, view the Financial System Doc ID informational document.
