14.2. TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS
A. Departmental
Most departmental scholarships and fellowships are awarded, funded, and distributed by academic departments throughout The University of Texas at Austin. They are created and approved within the department and processed in the FRMS Awards System.
The Longhorn Awards and Student Scholarship Opportunities (LASSO) system can programmatically create SS1 vouchers for scholarships and fellowships awarded in LASSO, if the department elects to use this functionality. An integration will send this information to FRMS where SS1 approval and actual disbursement of payments will occur.
B. Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid (OSFA)
The Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid (OSFA) acts as the point of contact for the following scholarship/fellowship types:
- Centrally issued scholarships, such as those included as part of Texas Advance Commitment, on the Scholarship Interest Form, and on the Continuing & Transfer Student Scholarship Application.
- External scholarships with funds originating outside the University (i.e., third-party payments disbursed to recipients by the University).
- Scholarship data stored in LASSO.
For assistance with these scholarships/fellowships, contact the OSFA scholarships team at OSFA-scholarshipsteam@austin.utexas.edu.
