14.2. TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

A. FRMS Scholarship Processing

Most departmental scholarships and fellowships are awarded, funded, and distributed by academic departments throughout The University of Texas at Austin. They are created and approved within the department and processed in FRMS Awards System.

Note: For departmental scholarships/fellowships being paid to HB 1403 non-immigrant students, see Section B. OSFS Processing.

B. Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) Processing

The following types of scholarship/fellowship payments are distributed by the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS):

  • Third-party payments (funds originating outside the university).
  • Departmental scholarships processed for non-immigrant students attending the university under the provisions of Texas House Bill (HB) 1403 are not subject to tax and will be treated as if the recipient were a resident for tax purposes. For that reason, these scholarships must be processed by OSFS. For more information about HB 1403, see Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board: Overview, Residency and In-State Tuition.

For assistance with these scholarships/fellowships, contact OSFS at ask@finaid.utexas.edu or call 512-475-6282, option 4. For more information, see the OSFS Scholarships Web page.
