Announcing Chris Pretorius as Director of Payroll

On Dec. 1, Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) will welcome Chris Pretorius as the next Director of Payroll. The Payroll Services team within AFM is responsible for producing and distributing payroll to approximately 29,000 employees, which includes monthly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payrolls for employees at the university.

Previously, Chris worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for 20 years providing consulting services to multinational companies in payroll, accounting, corporate and individual income tax, and many other areas. He joined Apple in 2014 and served as a senior manager responsible for stock administration where he eventually oversaw compensation services, including payroll services for over 60,000 employees. In 2018, Chris became a director where he leads a team responsible for all operations related to accounting and direct and indirect tax for all divisions within the Americas region.

"After 28 years of corporate experience, I can't think of a better place to be right now than joining the UT Austin Payroll Services team,” said Chris.

Chris graduated from Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) in South Africa with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation.

Updated Procurement and Payment Services Training and Resources Website

Over the course of FY22, Procurement and Payment Services (PPS) worked to develop a centralized interface to share the knowledge, skills, and resources held within PPS units - Business Contracts, the Historically Underutilized Business/Small Business (HUB/SB), Payment Services, and Purchasing (including UT Market and Procard). The new training and resources webpage at https://procurement.utexas.edu/pps-trainings, serves as a repository of unit-focused learning and development tools to improve university employee procurement competencies and practice.

The PPS Training and Resources site is intended to improve access and visibility of procurement related training content, which can be easily referenced and downloaded. The format of the site will also facilitate maintenance of trainings to ensure accuracy and availability of most up-to-date information. As work on this site continues, additional resources to be made available include curriculum pathways for different audience groups, as well as expanded access to resources available through our national procurement education partners.

The PPS team welcomes the opportunity to demo the new site to your user groups. Please direct questions, comments and suggestions regarding the PPS Training and Resources site to the PPS Internal Communications and Training team at pps-communications@austin.utexas.edu.
